Lanka only country to spend hugely on free health

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said there was no country in the world
other than Sri Lanka which provides a comprehensive health service to
its people at the cost of a large sum of money.

The Prime Minister said so when he opened the Udapalatha Medical
Health Officer’s building in Gampola.
This building has been constructed by the Central Province Ministries
of Health, Indigenous Medicine, Social Welfare and Probation and
Childcare with the assistance from the World Bank under the Kandurata
Udanaya program.
The Premier said that the Government allocates the highest sum of
money for three areas - security, health and education. He added that no
country other than Sri Lanka which makes available a free health service
to its population. |
