Lankan elected at Swiss polls

A Sri Lankan resident of Atchuvely who contested at the Lausan Municipality election has been elected by a large majority of votes.

He received 5,813 votes.

Plenty of GCE O-L 'A's

Vembadi Girls College and Jaffna Hindu College, two leading National Schools are in the forefront at the GCE O-L, the examination results. Eleven students obtained 9As and 40 got 8As. At Jaffna Hindu college 10 students obtained 9As, 28 students 8As, 23 students 7As and 16 students 6As.

Kaithady people helped

Fifteen wheelchairs and bicycles were distributed to the people of Kaithady living below poverty line to mark the completion of 32nd year of Non Violent Direct Action group of Kaithady, Chavakachcheri.

NGOs Chairman Kesavan distributed the wheelchairs and bicycles. Also deeds were given to the landless people living at Maravanpulo, Chavakachcheri.

Rider remanded

A motorcyclist has been remanded by Chavakachcheri Magistrate S Kanapathypillai for causing the death of school going child Mahendran Gajadeepan of Kaithady East in an accident that took place at Kaithady Post Office junction.
