SME exhibition to prepare sector for global market

The SME Machinery and Technology Exhibition 2011 has been organised
for the sixth successive year from June 10 to 12 at the BMICH by the
Small and Medium Enterprise Developers (Project SMED), Federation of
Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Sri Lanka’s SME development arm,
said SMED Technical Manager S W B Wijekoon.
“The main objective of the event is to help the SME sector enhance
its technological capabilities to emerge as an efficient and competitive
sector in the economy and to prepare it for the global market,” he
pointed out. “SME 2011 will provide an opportunity for local and
overseas machinery manufacturers, technology providers in Industry,
Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries sectors and SME support service
providers to exhibit new machinery, accessories, technology and
innovations, to display and demonstrate processes and methods of
production of goods and services and display SME Support Services,”
Wijekoon said.
Further highlighting investment opportunities in agriculture,
livestock and fisheries sectors, highlighting research and development
initiatives in post-harvest technology, introducing new technology and
trainings related to all above sectors, highlighting value chain and
supply chain development initiatives, sell machinery and accept sales
orders, and meeting of buyer and seller in joint venture opportunities.
The Industry and Commerce Ministry,Agriculture Ministry, Traditional
Industries and Small Enterprise Development Ministry and Livestock and
Rural Community Development Ministry are collaborating in this project
while the SMED is organizing this exhibition.
“Arrangements are being made for organizers regional SME
representatives, entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs to visit this
important event in greater numbers. The visitors will include SME
entrepreneurs, potential entrepreneurs, farmer groups, professionals
like engineers, vocational training students from all over the country.
Arrangements are already underway to organize such visitors through our
district chamber network,” he said.
The SME Machinery Exhibition 2011 is an ideal platform for companies
