Brawl leads to stabbing

A person died of stab injuries following a brawl among two neighbours in Nattandiya after liquor on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Velukumar (32) of Pushparama Road, Welahapitiya.

The body is lying at the Marawila Hospital awaiting an inquest. The suspect involved in the killing is in Police custody. He was due to be produced before the Marawila Magistrate. Marawila Police is investigating.

Meanwhile twenty three persons including the driver were injured and admitted to Walasmulla and Matara hospitals when a private bus on the Walasmulla-Middeniya road ran off the road and hurtled down a precipice near the Idiketiya Bridge on Tuesday evening. Walasmulla Police is investigating.
