Janasevana newspaper launched

According to the Budget 2011 the Government had allocated a large amount of funds for the Housing Development Authority, more than at any other time, Construction, Engineering Services,Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa said.

After President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second term, each Ministry faced a vast challenge to increase their efficiency and productivity. Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Ministry had started ‘Janasevana’ - one million housing project - to face this challenge successfully, he noted.

The Minister was addressing the launch of the ‘Janasevana’ monthly publication held at the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) yesterday. This newspaper is published by the Construction, Engineering Services,Housing and Common Amenities Ministry in collaboration with ANCL.

‘Janasevana’ is a newspaper which will be published along with Dinamina. It will come out every month’s third week. “We have established ‘Janasevana’ housing project by starting ‘Mihindu Sevana’ in Kirulapone under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. We hope to construct around 60,000 houses before the end of this year. From next year we wish to construct two houses in every Gramasevaka Division yearly and we will complete this project within three years,” the Minister added.

He noted that the public should have good knowledge about development program taking place in the country.

ANCL Chairman and the Managing Director Bandula Padmakumara, said today housing has become a serious matter in Sri Lanka. Because of this the ‘Janasevana’ project is an essential service. It will support persons who are expecting houses.

This is a very complex project. It is not only a political thing and creativeness and intelligence is also very important to get success, he added.

Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Ministry’s Secretary Gotabhaya Jayarathne, Additional Secretary Dayarathne, ANCL Editorial Director Seelarathna Senarath, Administration and Legal Director Rasanga Harischandra and ‘Janasevana’ newspaper designer, ANCL Lay Out and Graphic Designing Managing Director Samantha Karunasekara also participated.
