UN Chief on peace mission
UN Chief Ban Ki-moon arrived in Guatemala Tuesday
for a 48-hour visit aimed at reinforcing efforts to fight rampant
violence and help heal wounds from a civil war that left 200,000
dead. Ban was greeted upon arrival by Foreign Minister Haroldo
Rodas, and Wednesday will meet with Central American Presidents to
discuss security in a region convulsed by drug violence and gang
warfare.

Worst incident since Chernobyl:
Atomic crisis deepens in Japan
Japanese crews grappling with the world's worst
nuclear incident since Chernobyl temporarily pulled out Wednesday as
radiation rose following feared damage to a reactor containment
vessel. The evacuation order at the Fukushima nuclear power plant,
where a tall stack of white cloud billowed high into the sky,
deepened the crisis gripping Japan after an earthquake and tsunami
pulverised its east coast on Friday.
