Police arrest 15 candidates

Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya yesterday revealed that Police have arrested 15 candidates contesting the Local Government election and legal action will be taken against them for engaging in election violence.

The IGP further said that the Police received 162 complaints of election violence until yesterday. The Police was able to arrest 140 people in connection with these incidents.

The Police have taken legal action against them. Further investigations are being conducted to arrest suspects of other election related complaints.
