If violence reported:

Polls Chief to nullify results

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake will nullify results of polling centres where election violence is reported. The issuing of result regarding particular local government body will also be withheld. A fresh election will be held for the nullified election division in due course by the Elections Commissioner.

The final result of the particular local body will be issued only after elections to the affected polling centre is held and the result obtained.

The Elections Commissioner’s Office further stated that entering Polling Centres by force, casting votes by force, chasing away polling agents and officers, preventing voters coming to polling centres, not allowing voters to cast their votes, creates riots and any other main election violence may lead to suspension of the results of any polling centre.

The result of a particular polling centre will be nullified based on the reports of Senior Polling Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, Election Monitors and other election officials.
