Kiriella, Suminda in verbal battle

President, Kandy District UNP Organisation and Kandy District MP Lakshman Kiriella and Kandy's Deputy Mayor Suminda Wickramasinghe were involved in a heated argument opposite Queen's Hotel in Kandy in the presence of Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa yesterday. Several UNP supporters intervened and calmed the situation.

According to reports the argument had originated following an alleged statement made by Kiriella demanding Wickramasinghe to resign from the post of Deputy Mayor as he would not get UNP nomination at the forthcoming Municipal Council Elections. Suminda Wickramasinghe had supported President Mahinda Rajapaksa during the last Presidential Election.
