Election card distribution today

The distribution of polling cards for the March 17 Local Government Election will commence today, Postmaster General M K B Dissanayake said. The Election Secretariat received the poll cards of the Local Government Election on Monday.

The cards will be distributed until March 11. Sunday (March 6) has been set as a special day to distribute poll cards for the Local Government Election. The Postal Department has requested the public to collect their poll cards on that day. The public who do not receive their poll cards during this period can obtain them from the Post Office.

Almost 4,500 postal workers will be deployed to distribute the poll cards.

The Postal Department has received Rs 250 million from the Election Secretariat for work connected with the election. This money will be sufficient to make initial arrangements. The Department has also taken measures to purchase postal bags, fuel, lead and books with this money. The distribution of postal poll cards among certifying officers will commence from March 25.
