Plans to recruit Attorneys as ASPs
Chief Justice Asoka de Silva, Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem and IGP
Mahinda Balasuriya met at the Superior Courts Complex, Colombo yesterday
to discuss measures to streamline the administration of justice in the
country.
High on the agenda were the steps that should be taken to extend the
activities of courts in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, said a press
release issued by the Justice Ministry yesterday.
Attention was also drawn towards recruiting attorneys-at-law as ASPs
to create awareness among OICs on successfully conducting criminal cases
in newly set up courts and others earmarked for opening soon.
Attention was also drawn towards obtaining buildings for new courts
in the North and East, opening of courts at Vakarai, Kalawanchukudi,
Kinniya and Eravur and the possibility of setting up courts at
Eichchalampattu and Kiliweddi, the release said.
It was also decided to upgrade the Oluvil police post as a police
station and deploy Tamil speaking police officers for court duties in
the North and East.
The IGP said the Police Department had recruited a batch of 2,000
Tamil speaking police officers who are now undergoing training and they
hoped to recruit a few more in future.
