SLTPB to mark Sambuddha Jayanthi

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) will organize
religious programs to commemorate ''Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi" in 2011,
which marks the 2600th year of the Enlightenment of the Buddha. SLTPB
Research and International Affairs Director Malraj B Kiriella said this
year's theme is 'Tourism'.
It is being followed by a series of programs for each month.
The month of May has been allocated for religious activities. He was
speaking at a press conference held recently, regarding future plans on
the subject.
The SLTPB is sponsoring a film festival to mark the Sambuddha
Jayanthi. Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, India and Singapore are some of
the participating countries.
The festival will take place from May 17 to 20 at the BMICH .
The Research and International Affairs Director said these measures
were taken to encourage tourists to come to the country.
