CHC puts off hearing

Colombo High Court (CHC) Judge Deepali Wijesundera Tuesday put off the hearing against Mayonn Musthapha for May 6, 2011. Mayonn Musthapha has been indicted for having given Rs 4.2 million to Mohamed Muzammil on January 15, 2010 to induce him to support the candidature of Sarath Fonseka at a time when a Presidential election had been declared in the country.

Senior counsel for the accused President's Counsel Tilak Marapana informed court that his client is undergoing treatment at a foreign hospital and unable to attend court for the next three months.

On an application by the Senior Counsel, Judge Wijesundera put off the case for May 6.

On the last hearing date, President's Counsel Tilak Marapana produced a medical certificate in respect of his client and said that the accused had given instructions for him to appear on behalf of him. Prosecution witness Mohamed Muzammil who was present in court yesterday was directed to appear in court when notice is issued.
