Plans to amend existing procedure

Attention is paid to amend the existing procedure of granting duel citizenship, Immigration and Emigration Department Controller General WAC Perera told the Daily News yesterday.

He said that a new procedure has already been formulated. He said that it will be presented to the President for consent shortly.

The Controller General noted that the Department has temporarily halted accepting applications for dual citizenships until the new procedure is implemented.

Applications received which be processed according to the new procedure.

He added that dual citizenship charges might be revised under the new system. However it will only be finalized after the ongoing discussions, he said.
