Registrar remanded

A registrar of births, deaths and marriages in Munwatta Walapane who had allowed an individual to marry six women by registering the six marriages from time to time was apprehended by police on Monday.

He was produced before Nuwara Eliya District Judge and Magistrate Saman G. Kariyawasam and remanded till March 3.

Police said investigations revealed that the suspect registrar had registered the six marriages within a period of five years. Police are looking for the suspect romeo who had escaped from the area. A majority of women who had fallen prey to this trap are garment factory workers.
