Asylum seeker admits to crimes
Norwegian law enforcement officials have arrested a Sri Lankan Tamil
asylum seeker after the man admitted to killing three people in Sri
Lanka on behalf of the LTTE.
The man's lawyer said his client admitted to the murders in an
interview during the asylum process and said that he committed the
crimes after the LTTE had threatened to harm his family if he didn't
comply, AP reported.
Prosecutor Per Zimmer defended the arrest Monday, saying it was
important Norway did not become a haven for people who committed serious
crimes abroad.
Zimmer said the murders occurred in 2004 and 2006, adding the police
are studying whether the murders should be treated as war crimes, the
report added. priu.gov.lk
