India frees fishermen, trawlers

Chaminda PERERA The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry has discussed with the Indian authorities to expedite the legal process and get them released.

These fishermen with their fishing trawlers were released by the Indian authorities two weeks back and they were waiting for repatriation orders from the Indian Foreign Ministry.

Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said the fishermen were taken by the Sri Lankan Navy to the Mannar jetty and they were handed over to the Mannar Police by yesterday evening.
