The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of Peradeniya
University is the only institution in Sri Lanka with a mandate to train
veterinarians for our Motherland. Thus, the Faculty, although the
smallest in the University, has a special role in serving the public of
our country. This is achieved conducting a four year program of
activities leading to the degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Science
(BVSc), by the five departments of the Faculty.
The degree program offered by the Faculty consists of lectures,
tutorials, laboratory, field and ambulatory practicals, in plant
training and out reach programs and hence is comparable to similar
courses in overseas universities.
Furthermore, the quality of the degree is strengthened by regular
evaluations and revisions by experts and overseas collaborators to the
Faculty. In the recent past, the Faculty initiated its postgraduate
degree program and at present Masters degrees are offered in the
speciality areas of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science. These
programs have further strengthened the overall academic and research
performances of the Faculty. The Faculty is manned by well-qualified
academic and support staff.
The laboratories, the clinics and ambulatory facilities can be
considered excellent in term of a developing nation. Furthermore,
research by the staff and students offer a stimulating atmosphere for
academic and outreach activities and hence the Faculty can be provide of
its services to the nation. Many academics of the Faculty are also
involved in national and international projects and hence is a sound
compliment to the calibre of the programs offered to the students and
the nation.
The staff and students of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science
Faculty are proud of its services to the nation and look proud to
further developments to serve Sri Lanka and the region in term of
Veterinary Education and outreach activities.
