Against cyber crimes:
Sri Lanka completes Asia Pacific annual drill
Sri Lanka completed the annual drill against cyber crimes conducted
by the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) recently.
The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) played the
role of Organising Committee Lead. The APCERT led the annual drill to
test the response capability of leading Computer Emergency Response
Teams (CERT) in Asia Pacific countries.
Themed Critical Infrastructure Protection, the objective of the drill
was for participating teams to exercise incident response handling
arrangements locally and internationally.
The exercise aimed at mitigating the impact of ongoing internet based
attacks thus enabling a better coordination in tackling cyber security
incidents of teams in the region.
The coordination network that has been built up within the
Asia-Pacific region is a valuable resource to help each other in the
event of such an incident. It is encouraging that more teams have
participated in the drill this year, while many other teams and
organisations worked as observers to learn from this exercise.
The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) played the
role of Organising Committee (OC) Lead and was part of the Exercise
Control (EXCON) team.
Additionally, two SLCERT staff members were active players during the
drill while another played the role of 'observer'.
