Western, Uva Province VB matches conclude

The Western and Uva Provincial matches of the Munchee National Division II volleyball Championship came to a close recently. This tournament is conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation in with the collaboration of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd for the Munchee Trophy.

Western Province matches were conducted at Don Bosco ground at Hanwella with the participation of 34 men's and women's teams. The National Youth Services Council team won the men's division while the Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club became the runner up.

Siyane Tharu Sports Club, Gampaha won the women's category beating Torrington Sports Club, Colombo.

In the Uva Province matches of the championship was conducted under the patronage of the President of the Volleyball Federation Minister Dilan Perera at the public ground Bandarawela on 12 February 2011. The Ekamuthu Sports Club from Mahiyanganaya won the men's title. New Six Sports Club, Moneragala were the runner up in this tourney. In women's category, Sapumal Sports Club, Welimada won the championship defeating Pubudu sports club, Badulla in the final. A total of 18 teams participated in the Uva province tournament

The remaining matches of the National Volleyball Championship will be played commencing from next week end, through out the island, while the super league matches are scheduled to get under way from March 2.
