Fishermen, trawlers handed over to Indian Coast Guard

The Sri Lanka Navy handed over the Indian fishermen arrested for fishing in Sri Lankan waters and their trawlers to the Indian Coast Guard yesterday at the International Maritime boundary Line 1.5 nautical miles off Kankesanthurai. Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya told the Daily News the 136 fishermen and their 25 trawlers were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard yesterday evening.

He said that the Indian fishermen and the trawlers were escorted by two Sri Lanka Navy ships and they will be received by Indian Coast Guard.

Sri Lankan fishermen apprehended 124 Indian fishermen on Tuesday for fishing in the Sri Lankan territorial waters. Another group of 24 were apprehended on Wednesday.
