Deyata Kirula brings prosperity to Moneragala
The message containing the successful completion of the Deyata Kirula
National Exhibition held at the Buttala Gam Udawa Grounds in Moneragala
has officially handed over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by exhibition
committee Chairman Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya at Temple Trees
recently.
A press release by the President's Media division said according to
the message more than two million people viewed the exhibition during
its seven days.
The exhibition held on theme Ashcharyaye Kirula was not a mere
exhibition but a development program as well resulting in the investment
of Rs 10 billion and development work of the Monaragale district.
Rs 750 million was invested on Agricultural Development including the
promotion of crop cultivation of 600 acres, launching the 1,000 tanks
program, development of more than 40,000 home gardens and donation of
agricultural equipment to 262 schools.
Around Rs 4,000 million was invested on road development including
the development of more than 250 kms national and provincial roads while
the development of rural roads will benefit 4,000 families.
An investment of Rs 800 million has made on city and housing
development in Moneragale and under this program a new Police station,
bus stand and 4,100 houses were built in Buttala. A dedicated economic
centre was set up at Sellakataragama.
Under the banking and financial facilities sector, Rs 550 million was
invested while four new bank branches were set up and credit facilities
provided for 375 entrepreneurs in addition to housing schemes.
Rs 600 was invested on education, sports and vocational training
activities in the region.
Under the program, 10 schools were rehabilitated, books worth Rs one
million donated to seven new libraries and facilities provided for
14,000 sportsmen and women with two playgrounds, a swimming pool, 12
volleyball courts and holding of cultural and technical workshops in 11
schools.
Rs 650 million was invested in Health facilities. The Moneragala
hospital was provided with a new four storeyed building with
sophisticated equipment. Four blood bank branches were also set up in
Moneragale while X ray and scanning machines were provided for several
hospitals. Another 13 mobile health camps were held and 9,800 patients
treated at them.
Other investments included Rs 400 million for social dividends, Rs
500 million for industries and Trade, Rs 1,200 million on Irrigation and
Power, Rs 250 million on Information and Communication Technology
Development and Rs 250 million for Mobile Services, Religious program,
worships and shramadana activities.
Uva Chief Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Minister Jagath
Pushpakumara and other officials were also present at the handing over
ceremony. |
