Fire guts two shops

Two shops selling shoes in Kottawa were reduced to ashes after a fire broke yesterday morning.

A large stock of shoes in both shops were destroyed by the fire which erupted at around 10.30 am yesterday, Kottawa police said. There were no casualties. It is believed that a short circuit at one shop might have caused the fire. The fire was doused by the Dehiwala and Kotte Municipal Councils' Fire fighting units with the assistance of Kottawa Police and residents.

Police said the damage caused by the fire was being estimated. Investigations are on.
