Nipun and Jayanga prop up Matara Thomians

Centuries by Nipun Rangana Ranaweera (119 off 249 deliveries) and Jayanga Nirmana de Silva (100 not out off 90 deliveries) saw St Thomas’ College, Matara notch up a first innings win against St John’s College, Nugegoda in their under 19 division II tournament cricket match played at the Steel Corporation grounds in Aturugiriya last Tuesday.

On winning the toss St Thomas’ captain Nipun Ranaweera opted to field. Mohamed Mishdak 4 for 33, A Srimal 3 for 11 and Rajinda Punchihewa 2 for 22 bowled well to restrict St Johns’ to 148 in 61.2 overs. T Madushan 38 and S Chanaka 24 were the top scorers. St Thomas’ replied with 343 for 4 off 97.1 overs.

Nipun Ranaweera’s 119 included 12 hits to the ropes together with I Khanishka 58 he put on 138 runs for the third wicket and another 139 runs for the fourth wicket with Jayanga Nirmana de Silva who ended the day with an unbeaten ton which included four hits to the ropes and three over.

St. John’s College 1st innings 148 in 67.1 overs (T Madhushan 38, S Chanaka 24, M. Chanaka 14, Y Siriwardena 13, G Wanniarachchi 12, L Udara 11, D Pinnawela 11, Mishdak Mohamed 4 for 33, A Srimal 3 for 11, Rajinda Punchihewa 2 for 22).

St Thomas’ College 1st innings 343 for 4 in 97.1 overs (Nipun Ranaweera 119, Jayanga de Silva 100 n.o., I Khanishka 58, Mohamed Ismath 21, Lasith Lakshan 10, K Giragama 2 for 102).
