“We are honored to be a part of this global growth and a sport that
indeed needs much recognition in our country and Mount Lavinia Hotel
that boasts of a fabulous beach frontage can enable these kind of
endurance sports to surface,” Anura Dewapura said.
This year there are over 600 participants which is an encouraging
factor that to brave the sea is a must when living in an island. This
‘can-do’ and ‘get-up-and-go’ ambience enabled many open water events to
be born.
While visionary and passionate swimmers like Akhry Ameer and Shehan
De Alwis (Smurf) did the heavy leg work, focused on the logistics and
Nethru Nanayakkara were instrumental in indirect ways. The event will
start at 7 am at the Mount Lavinia Hotel.
This event is conducted under the aegis of the Sri Lanka Aquatic
Sports Union governed body of Aquatic Sports in Sri Lanka and it
comprises of water polo, diving, swimming, synchronized swimming and now
open water swimming. |
