Bank manager granted bail

Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundera granted bail for Habib Bank Manager N Aslam Shaik who had been remanded in connection with violating the Customs Ordinance.

Shaik was arrested for violating the Customs Ordinance in respect of USD 8 million. He had send USD 8 million without the Central Bank’s sanction to several foreign countries.

Judge Wijesundera ordered the bank manager to furnish cash bail in a sum of Rs one million and a bond of Rs 10 million each with two sureties.

Senior State Counsel Deleepa Peiris appeared for the Attorney General.

President’s Counsel C R de Silva with Senior Attorneys Asoka Weerasuriya, I M Iliays and Priyaranjan Jayasinghe appeared for Bank Manager Shaik.
