State of Victoria provides Emergency Trauma Unit

The State off Victoria, has provided a new Emergency Trauma Unit
worth Rs 450 million to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital recently. The State
had provided the unit as a response to a request made by former Health
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, the unit was officially handed over to
the Sri Lankan Government by International Aid Security and Emergency
Management Branch Manager and Prime Minister's Office Representative Ms
Sue Williams and UN Office of Project Services, Senior Program Manager
Robert G. Jones. Health Ministry Additional Secretary Dr Palitha
Mahipala accepted the documents on behalf of Health Minister Maithripala
Sirisena.
The unit will serve accident victims in the Northern Province.
The Ministry is now in the process of establishing Emergency Trauma
Units in all Provinces. Construction work of Emergency Trauma Units of
Kegalle and Ratnapura Teaching Hospitals is now going on at a cost of Rs
800 million.
A unit has already been set up at Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
The main unit established at the Colombo National Hospital which was
built at a cost of Rs 2,500 million. |
