New NICs for flood affected

Registration of Persons Department Commissioner A G Dharmadasa told the Daily News yesterday that he is ready to take urgent measures to issue new National Identity Cards for those who lost their NICs in the floods.

He said that he would hold discussions in this regard with the authorities. "We can also facilitate our service through District Secretariats," he said. He stressed that the new NICs would be provided within two weeks and the Department has the potential to issue even 200,000 NICs before the elections, if the need arises. "No flood victim would be denied their voting rights at the upcoming Elections due to the loss of NICs," he said.
