Govt to reduce vegetable prices
President Mahinda Rajapaksa said the Government will implement a
viable mechanism to provide vegetables to the consumers at cheaper rates
while protecting the farmers. The President was speaking at Kalutara
yesterday.
Vegetable cultivations in several parts of the country were destroyed
due to the floods and vegetable production has also dropped. Vegetable
prices in the local market are on the increase due to their low supply
to the market.
He said the Government focus on how consumers could be provided
essential items including vegetables at cheaper price while protecting
the farmers.
"We focus on providing vegetables to the consumers at cheaper rates
while keeping in mind the subject of safeguarding the interests of the
farmer communities," the president said. CP |
