The carnatic music arangetram of Selvi Sailakshmi, daughter of
Logeeswaran and Vasanthy Logeeswaran, disciple of musician A K
Karunakaran and student of Wellawatte Saiva Mangaiyar Vidyalayam was
held at Ramakrishna Mission Hall recently.
Selvi Sailakshmi |
Professor N Balakrishnan was the chief guest while Mrs P Gajendradas,
Saiva Mangaiyar Vidyalayam Principal was the guest of honour.
In fact, an appreciative and distinguished audience was present on
this occasion to listen to Selvi Sailakshmi’s wonderful carnatic music.
Music is a universal language without any barriers of race, caste or
creed which not only entertaining but give solace and consoles those
depressed as well. The great poet and dramatist Shakespeare said that
the man who hath no music in himself, nor his moods concord with sweet
sound, is for treason, stratagem and spoils, let no such man be trusted.
Indeed, music soothes all and it is believed to be an art created by
God which not only consoles those in distress but raises the power of
appreciation of humans physically, mentally and spiritually.
Selvi Sailakshmi’s carnatic music recital enthralled the audience and
her mesmerising vocal chords that flowed like gold captured the hearts,
senses and minds of music lovers present. In fact Selvi Sailakshmi
proved that she is an extraordinary artist whose music had a powerful
impact on one’s consciousness and had the quality to transform the
ambiance from the mundane to the divine.
Her carnatic music reflected a myriad of moods – joy, contemplation,
but above all total surrender to the Almighty. Her music was smooth,
sublime, soft and serene. Further, the benefit of guidance from her guru
veteran musician of international repute A K Karunakaran must have been
due to the favour bestowed on her by Sathya Sai Baba. Selvi Sailakshmi
proved herself that she has no parallel in the firmament of carnatic
music in terms of stupendous achievement and popularity. |
