Enhance leadership through image building
The Leo movement found it’s way to Sri Lanka in 1969. It has grown
rapidly among Sri Lankan youth community and presently there are more
than 150 Leo clubs in six administrative districts in Sri Lanka.

“Developing competent youth leadership is the main objective of Leo
movement. I myself have learned lots of communication, leadership and
team work skills through the Leo movement,” Leo Thilini Jayaweera who
presently leads Leo District 306 A2 as the District President said.
According to Thilini, Leo members organize many service projects
which benefit the needy people including elders, children and
differently able people. Furthermore, Leos work on diverse other project
areas including environmental conservation, health care programs,
awareness programs and leadership development programs.
Club 306 A2 has 19 active Leo clubs stretched from Colombo to down
south. Spreading from Bokundara to Beliatta, most of the clubs are
community driven Leo clubs. Leos enjoy serving the community and helping
needy people – that’s the highest satisfaction we get from being Leos,
Thilini added.
“This year along with my council I plan to provide more exposure to
the worthy projects conducted by the Leos,” added Thilini. “They do many
good service projects which has an impact on the society and together
with my council I am going to support them to make these projects more
meaningful by helping them reach more and more people and getting due
exposure to their good work,” she went on. Under the theme ‘Enhance
Leadership Through Image Building’, Leo district council has been
facilitating the clubs to do more service by providing them with
leadership training and necessary coordination.

Her main objective this year is to hold an international youth camp
where they would unite Leo club members from other countries with Sri
Lankan Leos. Last year, Leo district 306 A2 organized a three day camp
at Kithulgala and plans are underway to organize a fun filled leadership
training camp with foreign participation.
This camp will be organized from February 4 to 6. The grand finale of
the year would be the annual conference which would be held in June. In
this conference, Leo district will recognize the outstanding service
projects conducted by the Leo clubs.
