Prime Minister DM Jayaratne said he had followed advice and
directions of the Maha Sanga in every action taken for the advancement
of Buddhism. He expressed these views at a meeting held in Gampola.
The Prime Minister said he sought the audience of 30 Reverences
representing all three chapters at the Prime Minister's office with a
view to celebrating the 2600th Sambuddhath Jayanthiya.
He said a joint program was prepared to ensure the persistence of
Buddha Sasana. Special measures were introduced to protect and espouse
Buddhism locally and internationally.
It is planned to adopt six Bills to ensure protection and endurance
of Buddha Sasana and publish a booklet on programs.
The Prime Minister said the participation of all religions would be
utilized to strengthen spirituality to build up a noble society
agreeable to all religions. The aim was to build up a sense of
co-existence and harmony among all ethnic and religious communities.
