The concert tilted ‘Stars with Pramila’ is a fundraising show where
the stars will join with the new dancing sensation Pramila Surangani to
help those who are affected by Thalassaemia. The concert will take place
at Maharagama Youth Centre on February 16 from 6.30 pm.
This is the first time that Pramila will take part in a major dancing
show.
Pramila is very excited about the prospects of doing a major show
with the best in the industry. Speaking to the Artscope, Pramila was
very humble in saying that, “This is just a fundraising program. We
don’t expect to make any profits through the show. We hope to raise a
handsome amount and donate everything we earn to the Thalassaemia
Treatment Centre in Kurunegala.”
A star in the making, Pramila is an artiste with diverse talents. No
amateur to the field, Pramila has already organized two such dancing
shows and has even produced a tele-film of her own titled
SamanalaVasanthaya. Pramila will also star in two upcoming tele-dramas:
Angam Maladam and Senehasa Suwandai.
Stars are all very eager to contribute to the grand cause. Speaking
to the Artscope dancing star Nuwan Gunasekara went on to say, “We are
all caught up in our own grand schemes that we rarely arouse our mind’s
eye to the plight of these wretched souls.
Not everyday that we think of hardships they have to go through. As
social icons it is our duty to make them believe that if they put their
heart and soul in to it they too can dance and live life to the full.”
However, even amid all glamour, the highlight of the show will be the
dance act performed by thalassaemia-affected kids. The kids will steal
the spotlight as they take the center stage to do their own performance.
Pramila and co are very enthusiastic about the budding talent that will
be on display at the event.

Pramila was very enthusiast in saying, “All of them are very
talented. When they first came to practice, I couldn’t even believe that
they were suffering from a disease.” Joining in with the conversation
Chula added, “It is a night where everyone will be given a chance to
shine. We want them to believe that they too can shine and that they too
can shed light to this world. They all have talent in abundance. We were
all fascinated by the performance that they put with us.”
The show is expected to arouse a sense of awareness about the
thalassaemia patients.
The concert will feature a special video segment where they will play
a documentary program on the Thalssameia disease.
Dr Dayananda Bandara, in charge of the thalassaemia treatment centre,
Kurunagala, will do the special video presentation. Expressing his
professional expertise, Dr Bandara said: “Thalassaemia is an inherent
blood decease which affects the patient’s hemoglobin percentage.
Thalassaemia patients need to do constant blood transfusions to keep
their hemoglobin percentage intact. After the transfusion excessive
amount of iron gets stuck in the system and we need to use very
expensive drugs to take them out.”
The tickets for the concert can be bought from Salaka Maharagama,
Salaka Nugegado and from the entrance.
