Emirates Golf Classic on February 12

Following on the inaugural Emirates Colombo Golf Classic, that was held on February 2009 at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) - Emirates are moving in to hold the second edition of their Colombo Classic Tournament sponsored by the award winning Dubai-based International Airline on February 12 at the RCGC.

The tournament would be conducted in the Stableford Format in six handicap groups viz, Group A (0-9) Group B (10-18), Group C (19-28), Ladies (19-28) Masters and Seniors. Four-ball tee off commences at 6.00 am with the final tee off scheduled for 2 pm.

There will be over 200 amateur golfers in the fray. Three return tickets on Emirates to Singapore will be awarded to the winners of the main categories.

Emirates will also present 16 handsome trophies to the winner and two runners-up in each group A, B, C and Ladies and award two trophies respectively to the winners in the masters and seniors categories.

This apart every participating golfer will receive a Branded Cap and an umbrella. Whilst these details were made known at a press conference at the RCGC by the Emirates Area Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives, Chandana de Silva, he also explained that this event is an extension of Emirates commitment to Sri Lanka, to our frequent flyers and sports-loving people of this country.

He went onto say that Emirates supports the Dubai Desert Classic, one of the most Dynamic and exciting events on the International Golf calendar and the Colombo Classic is modelled on this annual event.

Devika Ellepola, Emirates Sales Manager in Sri Lanka, said the rapid expansion of the airlines' network, which now comprises 110 destinations and its involvement with sport on the global stage are a perfect match of interest.

The captain of the RCGC, Ananda Jayasekera spoke of the wider interest of the combination of the club and Emirates, saying that both were beneficial to each other.
