Number of programs to mark Independence

The people were yesterday requested by the Government to hoist
national flags in every household in view of country's 63rd Independence
Day which falls on February 4.
The ceremonial hoisting of national flags in all government
institutions will take place at 8.30 am on February 4 and a number of
programs would be implemented by the Government institutions at regional
level to mark Independence Day.
The national program to mark the 63rd Independence Day will commence
with an all night Pirith chanting at the Independence Hall on February 2
and an alms giving at Charikaramaya on February 3.
Buddhist programs would be held at the historical Kataragama
Kirivehera premises. The Buddhist religious observances are conducted by
Uva University Vice Chancellor and Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya Chief
Incumbent Ven Aluthwewa Soratha Thera.
Hindu, Islam, Catholic and Christian religious programs would be held
in Kataragama under the patronage of Ministers. The Father of Nation and
country's first Prime Minister D.S. Senanayake would also be
commemorated on the same day. The D S Senanayake statue would be
garlanded by D S Senanayake Commemorative Committee members including
UNP Parliamentarian Karu Jayasuriya, former UNP Parliamentarians Rukman
Senanayake and Wijeyapala Mendis.
