The school's carpentry teacher retired last year and no teacher has
been appointed to teach this subject, sources said. Meanwhile, it is
understood that there is no proper place to keep the school's science
equipment.
The science equipment and some chemicals are stored in a Grade One
class which is empty due to lack of students. The school also has no
staff room. The old building used as a staff room, was destroyed in the
recent cyclone and the principal's repeated requests to the authorities
to renovate or repair the building has been of no avail. The Disaster
Management Office had sent two sheets of tarpaulin. The damaged
building's roof and the upper walls are covered now, without use.
Past pupils and parents told the Daily News that the funds approved
as a result of the principal's request to the SDG Project Officers of
the Western Province Education Office, has not be granted to this school
while some other schools in Panadura have received the funds.
They said that the Secondary Education Modernization Project II
officers of the Western Province Education Office are responsible for
this financial unjustice.
