Lakshman’s newest CD

Lakshman Hewavitharana

Following a long silence, Lakshman Hewavitharana has launched his newest CD titled Numba Tharam. It is now available in all leading markets. Hewavitharana has attracted many fans with his songs mainly themed on love.

“I usually take two years to make a CD, mainly because I have to think of my fan base. They are fond of me for particular reasons.”

Hewavitharana would not be happy until the words and melody make some sense to him. Most words, he opines, must sound slow and rhythmical hence would appeal to the listener.

“We can now see an awakening in people attending outdoor shows especially music concerts. That’s a good trend.”

Despite professionally being a singer entertaining outdoor concert audiences, Hewavitharana never dreamt of becoming a singer while studying instrumental music as a teenager.

His friends gave him a cue he would be a star singer in future. Even in such a backdrop Hewavitharana did not just take up singing. He studied the art. “You may bring the talent along with birth. But still you have to study it. Only then you can reach mastery. Otherwise how could I be sure if I sing all right?”

Visharada Gunadasa Kapuge was his mentor. The late maestro had seen Lakshman sing in an occasion and then invited to the field.

That was in 2002, when Hewavitharana launched his first CD. Some of his major hits are Man Ahanne Nam Ne Rattarane and Epavennata Pera.
