Programs for LG candidates

Senior DIG (Elections) Gamini Navaratne said programs to educate candidates contesting Local Council elections about election laws and regulations will be conducted at police division level to prevent breach of any election laws during the forthcoming elections and ensure a free and fair poll devoid of violence.

He said those flouting election regulations will be arrested and dealt with according to the country’s laws irrespective of their social status.

He said according to election laws a candidate found guilty of breaching election laws and regulations will be denied of his candidacy for a period of five years and lose his voting rights too according to section 82 of the election regulations.
