US $ 2.7 m to improve nutritional level
Northern displaced benefit:
The World Bank will provide a grant of US$ 2.7 million to improve
nutritional level of the displaced in the Northern Province.

The funds have been granted by the Japanese Government under the
Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) to the World Bank for the purpose.
The program will enhance nutritional rates among the displaced in the
Northern Province.
The proceeds of the grant will be utilized for the supply of
emergency food rations, community mobilization, community based
nutritional interventions and supervision and monitoring of the project.
Around 7,100 undernourished pregnant and lactating mothers and 12,600
underweight children below five years will benefit. The project will be
implemented by Northern Provincial Health and Indigenous Medicine
Ministry under the guidance of the Health Ministry.
The signing of Grant Agreement for the project took place at the
Finance and Planning Ministry.
The agreement was signed by Finance and Planning Ministry Secretary
Dr P B Jayasundera and Country Director for Sri Lanka and Maldives
Diarietou Gaye.
Japanese Embassy Minister Kaoru Shimazaki and Second Secretary Kayo
Imamura also participated. |
