Prophet’s birthday celebrations
The Galle Muslim Cultural Association (GMCA) has made elaborate
arrangements to celebrate the Birthday of Prophet Muhammed for the 48th
successive year.
Twelve days of religious discourses by theologians from India and Sri
Lanka will participate at the ceremony to be held from February 5 to 15
from 8.30 pm at the Galle Fort Meeran Mosque.
All Island Tamil and Sinhala oratorical contests for the Sir Mohamed
Macan Markar and Alhaj A R M Thassim Memorial Challenge Shields.
Qirath and Thajweed recital contests for various age groups and the
All Island Arabic Calligraphy contests are also in the calendar of the
year.
The highlights of this year’s celebration is the All Island Azan
contest for the Marhoom Haji M M Ibrahim Challenge Cup donated by the
founders of GMCA.
The celebrations will culminate with a public meeting and prize
distribution ceremony.
Prizes will be distributed to winners of the various contests
conducted by the association on February 16 at the Galle Ramparts under
the chairmanship of GMCA President Alhaj Nusair Samsadeen.
Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem will be the Chief Guest, Alhaj Rusly
Husain is the Guest of Honour. |
