Asian Junior Squash C’ship :

Lankans off to fine start

Gihan Suwaris the skipper bagged the first victory for Sri Lanka beating his rival from Kuwait Yousiff Nasser in a pool ‘A’ qualifying match at the 15th Asian Junior Team Squash Championships yesterday. The tournament will be continued till January 29 at the Rathmalana Air Force Squash court complex.

Gihan comfortably beat Yousiff in the opening match a 3 - 0 win (11/7, 11/8, 11/7) while Binura Jayasuriya over came Aqeel Ali (Kuwait) in straight sets (11/7, 11/9, 11/2) in another match. The Kuwaiti’s only success came from Yousiff Nizar who defeated Dilshan Gunawardane 3-0 (11/7, 11/7, 11/8).

Altogether 11 boy’s teams and seven girl’s teams are participating in this year’s championship. A close contest was witnessed in a girl’s pool ‘B’ match between Tan Yan Xin (Malaysia) and Li Dong Jim (China) which went on for five sets, which ended in favour of Malaysian 3-2 (11/6, 11/3, 7/11, 10/12, 3/11).

Hong Kong beat Iran 3/0. Choy Kit Lun (HK) beat Seyd Mohammadreza (12/10, 11/3, 11/7). Ho Tze Ho (HK) beat Soheil Shameli (11/6, 11/5, 11/4).

Yip Tsz Fung (HK) beat Erran Jamshiti (11/4, 11/7, 11/0).

India beat Jordan 3/0. Ramit Jandon (I) beat Ahmad Khaleel (11/3, 11/3, 11/4). Abhishek Pradhan (I) beat Saif Yousef (11/2, 11/7, 11/8). Mahesh Mangoon (I) beat Mohammad Khaleel (11/6, 11/3, 11/8).

Japan beat Singapore 2/1. Ryosei Kobayashi (J) Thimothy Son (11/7, 11/8, 6/11, 11/8). Tomotaka Endo (J) beat Pang Ka Wai (11/8, 10/12, 11/5, 11/8). Pang Ka Hoe (S) beat Hayate Gunji (J) (12/10, 7/11, 10/12, 11/7, 9/11).

Pakistan beat China 3/0. Danish Khan (P) beat Wang Jun Jie (11/3, 11/2, 11/0). Syed Ali Shan (P) beat Li Zhi Yuan (11/1, 11/3, 11/1). Nasiri Iqbal (P) beat Shen Jia Qi (11/6, 11/5, 11/4).

Girls:

Hong Kong beat Singapore 3/0. Tong Tsz Wing (S) beat Mao Shi Hui (11/2, 11/6, 11/8). Lee Ka Yi (S) beat Sherilun Yang (11/6, 11/4, 11/4). Ho Ko Po (S) beat Hao Shi Yuan (11/1, 11/7, 11/4).

Japan beat Iran 2/1. Mayu Yamazaki (J) beat Taba Taghari (11/7, 11/1, 11/0). Saeidu Mazidi (Iran) beat Tamaki Marumo (11/8, 14/12, 11/7).

Risa Sugimoto (J) beat Sogol Samoodi (11/3, 11/6, 11/1).
