The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has achieved a record income of
Rs 14650.9 million in 2010, compared to the total income of Rs 13,492
million in 2009.
”This is an increase of 40.1 percent compared to the registered
percentage of 36.8 in 2009,” Transport Deputy Minister Rohana Kumara
Dissanayake said.
”The SLTB has also reported an increase in its daily income last
year, due to the reform of its administrative structure.
This has resulted in a more efficient bus service, meeting the
increasing public demand,” the Deputy Minister said.
The daily income of the SLTB has been increased by Rs 3.3 million
recording an increase of 8.98 percent in 2010 compared to the registered
figures in 2009.
“We have planned to convert the SLTB into a high daily income earner
by implementing new strategies and providing more facilities to
passengers,” he said.
He said that bus operations and passenger kilometres covered had
increased significantly this year. Income from passengers had increased
due to more buses being added to the CTB fleet and the resumption of
more long distance services. In addition, the introduction of new
concepts, Sisu Seriya, Gami Seriya, Nisi Seriya and Dumriyen Bus Riyata
(from train to the bus) have become more popular among commuters and
helped increase the revenue.
The SLTB deploys more buses during festival times to earn additional
income.
“This has helped provide a more quick and efficient bus service,” the
Deputy Minister further added.
