WB praises successful implementation

A visiting World Bank team in the South asserted their deep
contentment over the successful implementation of 2006-2010 five year
plan in respect of Southern Provincial Education Sector Development
Framework and Program.
The assertion was made at a project progress review discussion held
at the Governor’s secretariat under the patronage of Southern Province
Governor Kumari Balasooriya last Tuesday (25).
The World Bank team led by a group of officials from the Finance
Commission comprised Harsha Aturupana (mission leader), Mari Shojo and
Anita Fernandu.
They also engaged in a Project Preparation Mission for the ensuing
2011-2016 five year plan on Transforming School Education as a
Foundation of a Knowledge Hub, under the same project. Provincial
Education Minister Chandima Rasputram, provincial chief secretary
M.C.Disanayake, Governor’s secretary U.G.C.Jayalal, Provincial Education
Ministry secretary J.Ruvanpathirane, Southern Province Director of
Education Kithsiri Liyanage and Assistant Director of Education
Jayatissa represented the Southern Province at the discussion. Following
the previous one, the forth coming five year plan too is based on four
main principles namely, Increasing equitable access to basic and
secondary education, Enhancing the efficiency and equity of resource
allocation, and Distribution of education centres and Strengthening
education governance and service delivery.
Under the project it is also expected to increase the achievement
level of subjects such as Science, Mathematics, English Language and
I.C.T at least by 10 per cent.
