Sacred Bo sapling to India

A joint venture to send the Jayasri Maha Bodhi sapling to Bodgaya in India has been organized by the Prime Minister's Office, Religious Affairs Ministry, Buddhist Affairs Department together with Indian Mahabodhi Society.

The program will begin after an all night pirith chanting ceremony in Udamaluwa in Anuradhapura at 9 am on February 8. A perahera carrying the Bodhi sapling will parade the streets throughout the country for eight days. The Perahera will reach Colombo on February 15.

The Bodhi sapling will reach the Bandarnaike International Airport on February 16 with a colourful parade participated by Buddhist monks. Buddhist Affairs Commissioner General Chandraprema Gamage said the Bodhi sapling will be airlifted to Bodgaya on the same day.
