Pratibha Nikethana golden harvest
The Graduation night of the first batch of Prathiba Niketha and the
six-month Mass Communication course will be held at the Lyceum
International School, Nugegoda, on January 30 at 6 pm.
Students of the Prathiba Niketha completed a two-year weekend course
of Performing Arts and Students of the Mass Communication program
completed six-months weekend course under a full scholarship program
conducted by the Lyceum International School in collaboration with the
Mohan Lal Grero Foundation. Prathiba Niketha School of Performing Arts
was an innovative idea initiated by the late artiste Shesha Palihakkara
which commenced on an experimental basis. Its sole aim is to produce all
round stage artistes.

Dr Tissa Abeysekera was the other key person who has been closely
involved in developing and designing the syllabus with a unique
perspective.
After the demise of these two veteran luminaries of the Sri Lankan
arts field, Dr Sunil Wijesiriwardena took over the role of course
coordinator. This multidisciplinary course at Prathibha Niketha is
conducted by artistes such as Ravibandu Vidyapathi, Kolitha Bhanu
Dissanayake, Saumya Liyanage, Harsha Makalanda, M D Mahindapala, Piyal
Kariyawasam, Mahesh Umagiliya, Priyankara Vithanarachchi, Carlo
Fernando, Upali Indraguptha and Mal Sri Dias Weerasinghe.
The Mass Communication course of the Mohan Lal Grero Foundation was
conducted for a period of six months with theoretical and practical
training with the aim of producing the future journalists in Sri Lanka.
The students of Prathiba Niketha followed a program including the
main subjects such as Music (including Ragadari, Western and Folk Music
and history of both Eastern and Western) and Sri Lankan traditional
dance forms.
Besides these all dance forms related to theatre and cinema, all
aspects of drama from Natya Shasthra, Greek theatre, European theatre
and the far Eastern theatres were incorporated.
Other subjects induced cinema and TV, computing, world literature and
languages.
Students at this show will present a short ballet on the Oedipus
theme, two items of social dances, episodes of short stage productions
including two short dramas, and a few music items.
Ran Aswenna will be declared open by Youth Affairs and Skills
Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, Education Minister Bandula
Gunawardena, UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasooriya, Mohan Lal Grero
Foundation, Founder Mohan Lal Grero, Sathischandra Edirisinghe, Sunil
Edirisinghe, Malani Fonseka and Anoja Weerasinghe, in the presence of a
distinguished array of ambassadors, popular film and drama artistes.
