Talented British contemporary writer Jill Dawson and novelist Sandra
Jensen will be taking part in workshops conducted by the British
Council. Durham born Jill will hold a creative writing workshop at the
British Council on January 31 at 3 pm while Sandra will advice young
writers to decide whether their work is ready to be sent to publishers
on February 2 at 4.30 pm.
Jill will also read excerpts from her latest novel The Great Lover
and share her experience on the perils and pleasures of writing stories
based on fact in ‘Messing With People’s Lives’ will be held on February
1 at 6 pm.
Jill’s workshop, ‘Making Characters Live and Breath’, is for
prose-writers or poets who would like to try some new and fun ways to
create characters. This event is for those aged 17 and above. Some
writing experience is required from the participants but the main
requirement is a willingness to experiment and and an open mind.
Sandra will unleash her experience as a writer on making sure that
your work is spick and span before reaching the publishers at ther
workshop ‘Aspiring writers: Do You Dream of Being Published’. Many
novice writers have their confidence crushed by embarking too early on
the ‘business’ side of writing. Sandra will discuss the generalities and
specifics of publication and how to maximize your chances of breaking
into to the literary journal market.
