Jordan to relieve social tension

Jordan: Jordan announced an economic package estimated in 230 million dollars Wednesday, to help the local poor sectors, reduce prices, create jobs and reduce the growing popular discomfort after the events in Tunisia. Jordan King Abdullah II said the basic basket products should be available at the lowest prices for the citizens, so it was ordered to reduce the price of merchandise some days after many street protests.

Private information sources said this measure wants to avoid discomfort, up to now expressed peacefully, but which would turn into violent revolts, just like in Tunisia.

Official data provided by non-governmental entities said this Hashemite Kingdom has a high unemployment index with six million unemployed, basically people under 25 years of age, joined to the lack of political representation in some sectors.Amman, Prensa Latina
