Mother in hospital, father deserted them:

Children seek police care

A girl (15) accompanied by her brother (11) and two sisters 9 and 3 respectively called over at the Dawulugala Police Station on Wednesday and sought relief for them saying there was no one to look after them.

Police said investigation revealed that their father had deserted the family and the mother is receiving treatment at the Peradeniya Hospital for a mental problem.

They had put up with a neighbour for about a month amid many difficulties and later turned to the Police for help.

OIC inspector S M S B Senanayake said they were trying their best to help the children out by sending them to a welfare house.
