Tank water causes kidney disease

Research conducted by the Bandaranaike Memorial Ayurvedic Research Institute (BMARI) has revealed that tank water is the main factor causing kidney disease.

Indigenous Medicine Minister Salinda Dissanayake said that at least 25,000 kidney patients were identified in the North Central region by now. Almost 3,000 deaths have been recorded during the last five years and about 20 new kidney patients register in a clinic every week.

Additionally, BMARI Director Dr H L Obeysekara said that a large number of kidney disease cases identified in the 45 to 69 age group and minimum number of patients reported are in the group of below 20. The water is the main factor causing the disease. Consumption of fish without removing the skin and water plants too can be the cause of the decease.
