Fish prices down soon

Minister
Rajitha Senaratne

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Rajitha Senaratne told Parliament yesterday that the country's fisheries sector is experiencing the dividends of peace. Consumers will be able to see a reduction of prices soon, he said. The Minister said this in response to an oral question raised by UNP MP Anoma Gamage.

He said the fisheries production and consumption have shown a remarkable increase. Minister Senarathne said thanks to the input from the North and East following the eradication of terrorism, the country's fisheries sector has witnessed an increase from seven percent to 17 percent.

Fisheries production has gone up notably.

The price of fish sold at Fisheries Corporation outlets have also reduced. Even private sector outlets have reduced their prices, he said.
